The Selectboard is still seeking volunteers to serve on the newly-formed Agricultural Commission. The Agricultural Commission was established at the May 9, 2009 Annual Town Meeting. On October 6, 2009, the Selectboard appointed Wendy Kelleher and Larry Dixon to the Board and December 15, 2009 Ann Pemberton was appointed to the Board. There are still openings for two members.
The Board is intended to represent the South Hadley farming community and to encourage farming, the preservation of farmland and promotion of agricultural-based economic opportunities. The Board will function in an advisory capacity to the Selectboard and other local organizations and engage in projects and activities that promote farming. The Commission consists of five members to be appointed by the Selectboard, three of whom must be actively engaged in agriculture.
