This letter is written as a courtesy to make you aware of the Town’s taxation process as it may not have been discussed with you at your closing.  Please be advised that all proration of bills between a buyer and a seller is done at the time of closing by the attorney and is not done by the Collector’s Office.

All bills issued by the Collector’s Office are based on a fiscal year and are issued quarterly.  The fiscal year begins on July 1st and ends June 30th.    The due dates for Real Estate and Personal Property bills are August 1st, November 1st, February 1st and May 1st.  Sewer Use Fee bills are issued twice a year with the first bill being due in November and the second bill due in May.  Curbside Rubbish Pick-up Fee Bills are issued annually and are due in February.  Motor Vehicle Excise Bills are issued annually with the bulk of the bills being due in March.

The Town of South Hadley is served for water usage and fire coverage by two separate districts and by a municipally owned electric light department.   To find out the billing schedules for these entities you must find out what district your home resides in and contact that entity.  The numbers are as follows:  District One Water Dept.  532-0666, District Two Water Department 532-9210 and So. Hadley Electric Light Dept. 536-1050.

If you do not receive your real estate, personal property, curbside pick-up, sewer or excise bills please contact the Collector’s Office to obtain current bill information.
