2009 Heritage Landscape Inventory Report Published

In 2008, the Town was approved for participation in the Department of Conservation & Recreation's Heritage Landscape Inventory program. Through this participation, Bonnie Parsons of the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission worked with Town Planner Richard Harris and numerous citizens to identify those landscape elements of the community which residents felt significantly reflect South Hadley's Heritage.

Oer 40 landscapes were initially identified by residents participating in the December 2008 public meeting. The participants further defined the following as being the most significant for further review and analysis as Priority Heritage Landscapes:

McCray's Farm
South Hadley Falls and Canal Areas
Mount Holyoke Range
Pearl Street Farms
South Hadley Center
Mount Holyoke College

The DCR has recently released the final project report which analyzes the Priority Heritage Landscapes and provides some recommendations for their protection and enhancement. A copy of this report is posted on the Town's website at http://www.southhadley.org/Pages/SouthHadleyMA_Planning/documents/SHLIReportFinalReduced.PDF
