Desc. of Services: The Assessors office must discover and list all
taxable property, maintaining accurate ownership and property
information. The department establishes the "full and fair cash
value" of each of the Town’s approximately 7,000 taxable real
estate parcels and approximately 300 business personal property
accounts. The assessed values are the basis of the distribution
of the Town’s annual property tax levy. The department also
administers the motor vehicle and boat excise taxes.

center. It provides meals at the senior center and home delivered;
transportation to and from the center; educational and
recreational programs; volunteer opportunities; social service

Desc. of Services: The various divisions of the DPW provide
residents with a safe and comprehensive public works
infrastructure throughout town. Our responsibilities include road,
highway, and bridge maintenance and improvement, solid waste and
recycling program management, drainage and sewer system oversight,
winter snow and ice maintenance, engineering, wastewater
collection and treatment, and parks and playground management.

Desc. of Services: Selectboard members serve a term of three years, with one
or two elected each year. As chief administrative officers of the
town, the Selectboard is responsible throughout the year for
implementing the decisions of Town Meetings. They are the town’s
legal agent; the commissioners of highways and sewers, and of
police; the Board of Public Welfare; and the License Board,
holding hearings on license applications for the sale of alcoholic
beverages, storage of gasoline, etc. They draw up the Warrant for
every Town Meeting. They appoint most of the nonelected officials
and boards; e.g. Board of Appeals, Conservation commission,
Industrial Development Commission, but not the Committee on
Appropriations. Their chairman shares in appointing special
committees.

Desc of Services: The Water Pollution Control Dept. is a division
of the Dept. of Public Works, and provides oversight, management
and /or treatment of the various types of "Dirty Waters" generated
within the Town. The WPC Coordinator oversees various programs
related to combined sewer overflows, Inflow and Infiltration into
the sewer system and Stormwater Management, and regulates
commercial and industrial wastewater discharges to protect both
the treatment plant and our natural resources. The Treatment plant
is responsible for cleaning and treating the sanitary wastewater
to levels specified by both the State and EPA for discharge into
the Connecticut River in accordance with a federal NPDES Permit.
