Description of
Services:
The Water Pollution Control Dept. is a division of the Dept. of Public Works, and provides oversight, management and /or treatment of the various types of "Dirty Waters" generated within the Town, as well as stormwater. Various programs under this Department include combined sewer overflows, Inflow and Infiltration into the sewer system, Stormwater Management, and the regulation of commercial and industrial wastewater discharges to protect both the treatment plant and our natural resources. The Treatment plant is responsible for cleaning and treating the sanitary wastewater to levels specified by both the State and EPA for discharge into the Connecticut River in accordance with a federal NPDES Permit.
Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO's): The last discharge from a Combined Sewer Overflow in the Town of South Hadley occurred June 4, 2007, from CSO Outfall #010, located on College Street. The Town has since eliminated the last three CSO's. CSO #010 was sealed on September 17th, CSO #012 was closed on December 21st, and the last of the CSO's, #004, was eliminated on December 31, 2007. For additional information, please contact Melissa LaBonte at 538-5040. |
