Solid Waste Division


The Solid Waste Division of the Town of South Hadley Department of Public Works (DPW) has 2 key areas of responsibility:

  • Oversight of curbside collection and disposal of both trash and recyclables for the Town
  • Management of both the yard waste / composting site and the transfer station

Republic Services is contracted out by the town to provide curbside pickup of recyclables and trash; DPW staff manage the compost site and transfer station.

Christmas / New Years Alter Trash & Recycling Collection

Starting Dec. 25, trash pick-up will be delayed one day. The Dec. 27 pick-up will be made Dec. 28.  Pick-up resumes as scheduled until Jan. 1, at which point trash pick-up will be delayed by one day. The Jan. 3 pick-up will be made Jan.4.

Curbside collection of Christmas trees will occur Monday, Jan. 6 - Friday Jan. 31. Each route has two tree pickups on the same day as the trash and recycling collection. 

Trees must be bare with all decorations removed. Wreaths contain metal and therefore are not allowed in the curbside tree pick-up or in the compost area. No tinsel, ornaments or plastic bags allowed.


Recycling Center Stickers

Recycling Center Stickers are now available at the DPW and the Collector's offices. The Fiscal Year 2020 trash fee must be paid in order to obtain a sticker. All payments must be made at the Collector's office or online. The DPW does not take payments for the trash fee.

Fall Yard Waste Pick-Up: Oct. 28 - Nov. 22

South Hadley's fall yard waste curbside collection is set for Oct. 28 - Nov. 22. Each route will have two collections.

Please only use paper or open top containers. Any brush must be tied in bundles of no more than four feet in length.

Yard waste must be curbside by 7 a.m. on collection day. Please keep yard waste barrels separate from trash barrels.
