Massachusetts General Laws

• Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 61- Forestry - This program is designed to encourage the preservation of the Commonwealth's forest land.
• Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 61A- Agricultural/Horticultural - This program is designed to encourage the preservation of the Commonwealth's farmland and promote active agricultural and/or horticultural uses.
• Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 61B - Recreational - This program is designed to encourage the preservation of the Commonwealth's open space and to promote recreational land uses.

Application Process

The deadline to apply for the upcoming fiscal year for Chapter 61, Forestry Chapter 61A, Agricultural/Horticultural and Chapter 61B, Recreational is December 1 (of the previous year). An application along with the respective chapter Owner's Acknowledgement of Rights and Obligations must both be filed for an application to be considered complete. Each chapter has its own Rights and Obligation form however there is one application that is utilized for all three chapters.
