The annual Seven Sisters Trail Race will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023.
The Seven Sisters Trail race was started in 1991 and has always donated all net proceeds to the Friends of the Mt. Holyoke Range, a nonprofit organization that helps the State of Massachusetts to protect and preserve land surrounding the Mt. Holyoke Range State Park. In addition, the Friends also has numerous programs that promote the Range such as the Summer Concert Series. Since the start of the Seven Sisters Trail Race, more than $100,000 has been donated to the Friends. These fundraising efforts help preserve the range and support land conservation efforts in South Hadley, Hadley, Amherst, and Granby.
The race is a 12 mile, out-and-back course along a technical, single-track trail over what locals dub the “Seven Sisters” in the Holyoke Range. It covers over 3,500 ft. elevation gain, following the ridge crest of the Holyoke Range. It’s widely considered the most challenging trail race in the Northeast… and in our humble opinion… it has the most beautiful views The race starts and finishes on Military Rd at the Notch. The 500 person racer registration has been filled, but volunteer opportunities still are open!
Race volunteers help in a number of ways:
- Water Stations
- Registration Table
- Halfway Turnaround
- Finish Line
- Medical Attention
The Seven Sister Trail Race is possible thanks to the efforts of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR), whose employees maintain portions of the trail that serves as the course for the race and offer their expertise and assistance the day of the event. Along with many community partners and volunteers, the DCR offers important support to Seven Sisters runners and race coordinators. It is thanks to the organization’s year-round stewardship of the land that the race can take place on the Mt. Holyoke Range.
This race wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for the many Volunteers that come together on race day that make it happen! Please consider offering a few hours of your time.
