The South Hadley Elementary School Building Committee invites all community members to a virtual community workshop on Monday, October 21 at 6:00 PM via Zoom. This workshop is part of the Educational Visioning Process, where teachers, parents, students, and residents help define priorities for student learning, the spaces and programs that matter most, and how a new or renovated Mosier Elementary School can best serve the entire South Hadley community.
Project Update
The Committee recently selected Mount Vernon Group Architects (MVG) as the project’s designer. Together with the District’s Owner’s Project Manager, Skanska, and the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), MVG has begun the Preliminary Design Program (PDP) phase. This phase will establish the project’s educational goals and evaluate potential options to address Mosier Elementary’s long-term facility needs. South Hadley was one of only 19 school districts, out of 63 applicants in 2023, invited into the MSBA’s highly competitive grant program, which funds the design and construction of new or renovated schools.
A Once-in-a-Generation Opportunity
Built in 1969, Mosier Elementary has reached the end of its useful life. The MSBA partnership presents a once-in-a- generation opportunity for South Hadley to address urgent facility challenges while shaping a school that supports modern teaching and learning and reflects the community’s values. “We look forward to hearing from residents and ensuring that this project reflects the values and priorities of our town,” said Diane Mulvaney, Chair of the South Hadley Elementary School Building Committee. “It will be important for our committee to blend the educational needs of our students with care, compassion, and fiscal responsibility, delivering a solution that serves our needs now and into the future.”
