Join us on Sunday, September 18 for an Interpretive Trek at Black Stevens Conservation Area! The South Hadley Bike-Walk Committee invites the public on a fun and engaging interpretive trek on the “flora and fauna” of the Black Stevens Conservation Area. Guest speaker and guide Mike Lamontagne will lead the trek along the multi-trail system that crisscrosses the diverse and historic woods between the South Hadley High School and the new Plains Elementary School. Mr. Lamontagne, born and raised in South Hadley, is an accomplished expert on horticulture and natural resources. He is also a former town Tree Warden and Conservation Commissioner, a current member of the Tree Committee and the Forestry Committee, and a MA Angler Education Instructor. Meet at 12:45 pm at the South Hadley High School parking lot on Rt 116. Park in the Student’s Drop-Off area lot on the far right for closer access to the trailhead. The approximately 1.5 hour trek is relatively flat over leaf-lined and dirt paths with only a few small-to-medium ascents and descents.Wear weather-appropriate clothing, safe footwear, bug spray, and bring water and optional snacks. Non-enjoyable or hazardous inclement weather/conditions will force a postponement; should that occur the trek will take place on the following Sunday, 9/25/16, at 1 pm.
