Posted on: September 29, 2022[ARCHIVED] Eversource work resumes on John Lane and Newton Street

Eversource work on a project off of John Lane has resumed following a site visit by their engineers and a third party testing company. Their group determined the project is not reaching the 50 percent mark of the allowable limit set by the Army Corp of Engineers. An increase in resident calls concerned about noise and homes vibrating prompted Eversource to halt the project until an assessment could be done. When work on John Lane is complete, Eversource will move on to Orion Farm on Newton Street.
Eversource transmission work began this summer in Holyoke, Chicopee, and South Hadley that includes replacement of 10 lattice structures with new steel structures and installation of a new optical grounding wire (OPGW) at the top of all structures within the right-of-way.
The OPGW will be installed between Mt. Tom Substation in Holyoke and the Fairmont Substation in Chicopee. There is one structure being replaced in Holyoke, seven in South Hadley, and two in Chicopee. Of note, the work will involve crossing the CT River from Holyoke into South Hadley as well as crossing over Route 202 in South Hadley.
If residents have concerns, the Eversource Projects Hotline number is 800-793-2202. Folks can leave a message with their name, number and address. The voicemail is checked every few hours. Residents can also email ProjectInfo@eversource.com.
