The Biden administration is preparing for a potential winter surge of COVID-19 by reinstating a program to provide free coronavirus tests to Americans through mail delivery. They plan to allocate over $600 million to purchase tests from twelve domestic manufacturers. The website for the program,, will begin accepting orders on Monday, and households will be able to receive four tests.COVID-19 hospitalizations in the United States have been increasing, although they remain lower than earlier in the pandemic. Free COVID-19 tests have become less accessible to many Americans. The previous requirement for private insurers to cover up to eight at-home tests per month ended when the public health emergency for the coronavirus expired in May, according to information available up to September 2021.
